What is Real-time communications? #RTC

Photo: I6NET’s team using our Vxi*/RTMP systems for RTC with video HD, at MWC2012 Booth [dt_divider style=”gap”/] A clear definition of Real-time communications is important to understand what will be the newest evolution of Internet applications and services for businesses and individuals. All is moving around to more real-time, more video, better sound quality, better screen resolution, easier human-interfaces… RTC technology helps to share together most of our senses thru digital networks at light’s speed: Real-time communications (RTC) is any mode of telecommunications in which all users can exchange information instantly or with negligible latency. In this context, the term “real-time” is synonymous with “live.”   RTC can take place in half-duplex or full-duplex modes. In half-duplex RTC, data can be transmitted in both directions on a single carrier or circuit but not at the same time. In full-duplex RTC, […]

OpusReseach – 2010: Taking Recombinant Communications “Over The Top”

According to opusresearch; “Over the top” (OTT) is gaining momentum as the “term of art” for value-added Voice over IP (VoIP) transport networks. In rapid succession we’ve seen Avaya contemplating a relationship with Skype, Telefonica’s European wireless subsidiary 02 purchase JaJah and most recently Mark Plakias at Orange pointed me to this “Flash-to-VoIP” service, calling it an “OTT cocktail of Flash and Jingle-to-SIP gateway technology + carrier.” The phrase “over-the-top” suggests a level of extravagance (think of “over the top” entertainment). Yet, during the past 10 years it has become synonymous with “cheap international calls”. In 2010, I expect OTT to return to form and refer to all sorts of value-added services and innovations, whose providers take advantage of those “cheap” or “free” minutes to take VoIP “beyond customary boundaries” (which happens to be one of the definitions for […]

Intel add new 2010 Xeon processor’s features to improve voice & video over IP telephony

Evolution of Telephony goes Software, times of specific Hardware boards is changing… Sept. 13, 2009: Intel Corporation today disclosed new information about next-generation Intel® Xeon® processors – codenamed “Jasper Forest” – for communications and storage applications, due in early 2010. With Jasper Forest, Intel engineers have, for the first time, integrated PCI Express* (PCIe*) in a dual-processing Xeon processor, which greatly facilitates dense storage and communications solutions such as IPTV, VoIP, NAS, SAN and wireless radio network controllers. VXI* IVR / IVVR platforms get their power from the CPU; today last enhanced processors deliver superb computing power, performance, and reliability to manage a large numbers of simulteanous calls without using any specific DSP or boards.
